FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the studio closed?
Genevieve has decided to take a break from teaching for a short while so that she can spend more time with her family and be there for her sons as they complete their final years of High School.

What do I wear to my private lesson?
It is best to wear something comfortable that is also not too baggy.  As there is a lot of focus on correct body alignment, it is important that your instructor can see your body and it is not hidden under layers of clothing. Leggings or shorts and a tank top or t-shirt are recommended. No footwear is required although you can wear socks or sticky socks (the studio has some Toesox for purchase).

Why can I not wear shoes for my workout?
In Pilates we focus on a whole body workout and that includes your feet. Many exercises are performed with different foot positions so it is important that your feet can move. We also work on balance and proprioception, which is challenged more in bare feet. Feel free to wear socks or sticky socks for your lesson. We sell a limited range of Toesox at The Body Pilates.

What happens if I can't make the class or private lesson?
The studio has a 24 hour cancellation policy. We understand that unforeseeable things pop-up, so If you know that you can't make your lesson or class, send a text on 0403 987 837.
In the event of a no-show without prior notification, you will be charged for the class or lesson from your package.

Why do private sessions cost so much?
When you attend a private lesson you are receiving the undivided attention of your instructor who will be able to program for your body and make modifications specifically for you. If you have never done Pilates before, it is highly recommended that you attend at least 3 private sessions. This will allow you time to get used to the terminology and basic principles of Pilates as well as becoming comfortable with the equipment and essential level exercises.

Are the instructors certified?
Genevieve is the main instructor at The Body Pilates and is a fully certified STOTT Pilates instructor and a Licensed GYROTONIC Method Instructor, as well as being certified in ZenGa, TotalBarre and TRX. Genevieve has attended several workshops and courses to teach Pilates to Pre-and Post Natal women, as well as those with Osteoporosis. In addition, Genevieve attends workshops every year to keep her knowledge current.

I am pregnant, can I still do Pilates?
Absolutely! As long as you have the all clear from your medical practitioner to exercise, Pilates is a safe form of exercise for both Pre and Post Natal women. Using the equipment allows your body to be fully supported and means you can continue with your Pilates practice right up until your due date.  We focus on breath, postural alignment and strengthening the legs and arms to prepare your body for birth and beyond.

I am recovering from an injury and don't know if Pilates is right for me?
Many physios are now trained to teach Pilates as they realise that the exercises are perfect for facilitating a faster recovery from an injury. With over 500 exercises and many more modifications using small props, it is possible to work around any restrictions while strengthening and regaining mobility in joints and limbs. In addition, understanding your body and any injuries, surgeries or illnesses, means that your instructor can tailor your exercises to avoid any movements that are contra-indicated.
If you have had an injury, or suffer an illness, please get the all clear from your medical practitioner before embarking on your Pilates journey.

Do men do Pilates?
Joseph Pilates was a man and created the system of Contrology which we now call Pilates. Although the media tends to focus on women doing Pilates, it is actually a wonderful modality for men as it not only improves core strength, but works on balance and flexibility. Many elite athletes from soccer players to golfers use Pilates to give them an extra edge in their game.
